Quick No Sew Heat Pack

Last year we made those Rice Buddy heat/cold packs as Christmas gifts.  My family loved them so much that 2 people asked me to please make them another one to keep in the freezer.  Needless to say, mine were given away...and then things like moving kicked in and I never replaced ours...

Fast forward to this week when I have sweet babies with a nasty cold/cough and an earache .  The earache starts of course at 2 a.m. when I'm very sleepy... though sometimes I think better then, I think.  Probably just desperation to help that baby feel better so we can both go back to sleep.  OK, I'm getting to the Rice Pack, I promise !

Here's what you do:

1.  Go to the orphan sock area and choose a sock- small ones are great for little hands and heads.  Just no holes, please.

2.  Get the rice from the pantry and pour in enough to fill the sock about halfway.

3.  Tie a knot tightly in the sock to hold in the rice.  Pull the cuff part (if there's enough) back over the knot and rice filled area for extra padding and to make sure the rice stays where you put it.

4.  Heat in the microwave 1 minute or so.  Place on ear or other achy area, tuck baby in bed with you and both go back to sleep .

My little ones love these.  I've considered dressing them up a bit, but then they'd never give them up!

I've sewn some of the regular ones, but like you I gave away mine! A friend of mine who is a doula uses tube socks and they made a great size to wrap around your neck. Wish I had a bunch of rice on hand right now, I could use one right this minute!
