Strange Christmas Beliefs from the past...

Just for fun! 

 I read these in A Christmas Feast.

These are just a few of the rather odd things that people are said to have once believed.  I picked ones that had a bit of "homestead flavor" .

People once believed that...

a sprig of mistletoe hung over a stable door would keep the cattle healthy.

bees hummed Christmas Carols. (Harriette- could you verify this?)

roosters crowed all night.  (That would be horrid.)

farm animals might gossip about the faults of anyone who listened in on their conversations on Christmas Eve.

a girl might knock on the gate to the pigsty on Christmas Eve.  If a full-grown hog was the first to grunt in reply, her husband would be an old man.  If a piglet replied, he would be a young man.
