Random Ramblings...

It's still cool here- I almost don't believe it myself!  I'm making Beef Stew and Cornbread for dinner tonight.  Yum.

Oh, and peach cobbler for dessert.  Can't leave out dessert!  I'm going to do a little "experiment" with the recipe...ssshhhh!  Just a bit of tweaking here and there.  It's that Easy Cobbler recipe-

1 large can o'fruit

1 stick of butter

1 cup of flour

1 cup of sugar

2 tsp. baking powder

1 cup milk

Melt butter in pan; pour undrained fruit over butter; mix flour, sugar and baking powder together; stir in milk.  Pour over fruit.  Bake at 350 until done.

Very quick and easy, but not too good for you.  I'm going to try whole wheat flour, organic cane juice crystals (Not a whole cup, either), and maybe some coconut oil instead of so much butter.  I'm also using "natural" canned fruit- the ones in juice instead of syrup.  Sure wish I had some real "home canned" peaches to use!

Well, I'll let you know how it turns out- if it's edible I'll post my recipe .

This is cute- my "garden girls" have been gathering leaves and dead grass and other stuff (including a banana peel someone threw on the ground ) to make compost!  They made a little pile up against the building on Friday.  My oldest was not too happy with me when I told her it couldn't stay there.  The "mow men" would have blown it away with those loud obnoxious leaf blowers anyway .  No problem for these girls, they just filled up their little beach buckets and put them under the stairs!  I think I'll get 'em a plastic garbage can or something to put their "compost makings" in!  I can't discourage such fine farmgirl ingenuity!  They even found a small strip of earth that  didn't get covered with sod this summer (sadly the sod that was put by our place was quite dead).  They took their little shovels and rakes and smoothed the soil and cleared out the leaves (compost you know) and were quite prepared to plant some seeds there.

I think I'll ask the apartment manager if it will be OK.  Gardening is in their genes it seems!  If not genetic, it is a reminder for me that children "learn what they live".  They naturally tend to do "gardeny things" because that's what they've lived.  Gardening is just "what we do".   Makes me aware that they will do other things  because they see me doing them.  I must be vigilant in modeling the  things that I want them to do.

OK, I'm off to have a cup of tea (something my girls also love), get the girls lessons going, and start my stew  .

Have a great day!!!

Hello garden mamma~
Your peach cobbler sounds yummy!
So you don't like snakes in the house huh? You have to get used to that so we can have a good visit someday- I just know that one of these days, even if it's when we are shriveled up old, we will have a visit!
Keep up the great work! You are such a good mom :)

Hey Garden Mamma! I love that name BTW...
I would be SO delighted if you are thinking about what I think you are! He he he.
Guess what? You can be a long distance mother for now. I am just getting ready to find "Mammas" to the Dorm 6 boys (boys 11-13). I have a ong-distance boy named Joe. I talked to him on the phone today and he told me he loved me!!! He is a darling. They are so full of love. I just love those Liberian kids!
Let me know if you want to be a "Mother of Love" and write letters to one of those little sweeties. I enjoy the older ones the most, they have lived through war.
Hey! I wouldn't mind a toda in the house. Those things are CUTE! I love 'em. They are better than snakes :P
