Monday's Musings
First, I have a tiny tomato on my container grown plant! Yea!!! There are lots of blooms, too. Now, if I can just keep it safe from birds and little people who seem to all find their way to my plants- unattended by any sign of an adult, of course
My mints that I have lined up on the window ledge outside are looking rather pitiful. I'm considering putting them all together in a larger container and letting it be a "survival of the fittest" kind of thing. I've never had any trouble growing mint- containing it maybe, but they're just struggling to survive. Of course, getting the soil washed out of their pots 2 weeks in a row didn't help them any.
The pots of petunias, marigold, gardenia, lemon balm and chives are all doing well. The lemon verbena doesn't look great- it also suffered from the rain washing it's dirt away. The bay tree is getting new leaves. It hangs on, though it is a very, very slow grower!
We bought 2 very old wooden chairs a couple of weeks ago at Goodwill. Yesterday I scrubbed them down good and we put a coat of "Island Water" tinted wood stain over the very weathered white paint. Today I'll put on a second coat and see how they look.
I need to grind some wheat and bake bread today or tomorrow and make some soups. I'm rereading through the More with Less cookbook; after reading Living More with Less last week...... lots of work to do in this area right now. I also picked up a book called "Harvest for Hope" by Jane Goodall at the library. Very eye opening stuff, some of which I've read on the web recently. Lots to ponder.........
