Soapy Question

OK you soapmakers, I would love some help, pretty please!

I want to make a batch of soap for the first time.  Could someone please, please share a S-I-M-P-L-E recipe for an all vegetable based soap (without vegetable shortening) please?  I have olive and coconut oils here, and don't want to invest in other oils right at the moment.

Thanks!

Catherine

hmmm..... first off,
millersoap.com there is a list of recipes for all sorts of ingredients.
also try here: www.pvsoap.com/recipes.htm

I do not know personally about a recipe for a soap only using coconut and olive (I hope it is not extra virgin you are using - save that for your food, and buy the cheaper stuff for soap).
the simple recipe I like has coconut, olive and veg shortening. it is on the pvsoap page, cold precess soap number 1.

good luck. have you found lye yet?

On millersoap.com there is also a downloadable spreadsheet where you can input how much you have of what oils.

I find it invaluable! About 6mo ago I found a huge tub of lard at the grocery store super cheap. Now lard factors into my soaping regularly! :)

Tip: Always weigh your oils. Even "new" unopened bottles that say 32oz might really have 27oz or 30oz ... you don't want your recipes thrown off like that.

Soaping is addictive! :)

Catherine, try to add one more oil, ant more than 20% coconut oil. More than that will be drying to your skin. It makes a great lather, so don't skip it, but not too much *U*

That is a great link, with recipes on the site, as well as a lye calculator. I make my own recipes, and this is waht I use.
Happy soaping!

Thanks so much!

I really appreciate your help!
Especially the link for the lye calculator :) . That should make it easy to make a batch of soap with whatever I have on hand.

I love this community :) !
Hugs,
Catherine

try and google Blender Soap Recipes. I made a ton of 1 pound batch recipes in my blender to try out various oils. I found a very simple one using Crisco, that despite how it sounds, was a really nice bar of soap. The possibilities are endless and soaping can be addictive! Enjoy your soapy fun!
