This and That

Not a lot going on around here.  The sun is out, I think the rain has stopped until fall, we still get some foggy drizzle, but no down-pours.  The only thing I don't like about that is all the grass turns brown.  We always say we'll keep the front lawn watered, but it never happens, and I wonder how much it costs...?

This weekend my husband is actually going to take Monday off!  A rare thing, since he is the boss and hates to miss work.  Our oldest son is going camping at the lake with friends of ours.  This is one weekend in particular I would never go camping, unless it was somewhere remote with no people.
Most years we go check out our local Kinetic Sculpture Race, a zany three day race with man-powered 'sculptures' that go through sand, water, and mud...FOR THE GLORY!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_sculpture_race
It's a lot of fun.

Saturday we are going to a friends for a BBQ and that's it for our plans.  We will probably just relax and work around the house and yard.
Sounds good to me!

My garden is growing!  Everything is looking good, well, my beans are being eaten by something, there are little tiny holes and the leaves are turning kind of yellow.  I don't really know how much I should be watering everything either.  Hopefully all my plantings will survive my inadequacy as a gardener.

Another school year is coming to an end.  My oldest is graduating from high school!!!  We are having a very nice graduation for the 9 homeschool graduates from our support group in a few weeks.  I still cannot believe I have an 18 year old!  We will be having our End of the Year Picnic in a couple weeks, that is always a lot of fun.  The kids are excited about it being summer, and spending days at the river and the beach.  We will still do reading and math through the summer, otherwise they forget so much.

Well, that is all for now, I have chores I should be doing!  I wish everyone a fun and safe holiday.

Water every few days, every other day in the heat. :) If you water every day, the root systems don't go deep, and then YOU BETTER NOT MISS A DAY!

Shallow root systems are trouble .... I found that out last year! ;)

Same thing seems to be happening with my beans. I hope they all pull through!
