Kill Your TV

09:05, Tuesday, January 2, 2007 .. Posted in Household Happenings .. 2 comments .. Link
OK, I admit it, I am a TV-oholic.
I admit this knowing full well that TV is vile, especially these days...morality is no-more, homosexuality is rampant, and you can't get away from it!  Even when you are watching a decent show the commercials are pornographic!  It makes me ill.
We have been without TV since Christmas Eve.  We moved our TV into our new addition and there is no cable out there....yet.
We have spent the evenings reading and TALKING to each other!  Imagine that!
Today the cable man is coming (to turn on the anti-christ...kidding?)
My husband and I have decided that we will not put a TV in our bedroom.  We also decided we will not turn the TV on, except for once in a great while (or to watch movies), and if it starts becoming a problem again, we are going to unplug the cable for good.  I wasn't strong enough to say no to cable, but I am taking babysteps.  I feel that with my husbands support TV won't be robbing us of our family time, and it will not be that bad influence that is was before!  It will no longer be an idol.  Please pray for us to remain strong!

Hi there,
I got rid of my television license (and yes we have these in England) almost a year ago now and then I gave my television away at the end of October 2005. Yes I missed not watching television for awhile after I got rid of my license but then I have found that I have had so many other things to do.

I miss it occasionally especially when there is a good drama on but apart from that no. Having said this I may well get a small one so that I can play my exercises dvds as this will be a lot cheaper than going to the gym but for watching dvds that will be all it will be used for but I will see whether or not I will go down this road. Do I actually want a television in my home again?

I will be praying that the Lord continues to give you strength regarding this and well done for taking the steps you have done so far.
Blessings

I am happy to hear that you have unpluged the satin filled box, as we call it. I am not against movies or family films but they are hard to find on the TV. When we had TV in our home, it controled everyone but me. I just don't like TV so I had to be the strong one in making the decision to get rid of it.
My husband even moved out for a week or more because he could not live without TV.Isn't that sad?He did move back and admitted to being controlled by it, his idol.
Some people can have enough self control to leave it off.My husband could not it was his best friend and he wanted to watch it all alone.
I think you will find more time to play games, read, go outside and get things done.
Be strong! be strong! be stong! out of site out of mind works great too. I once put the TV in a closet and every time my husband wanted to watch it he had to get it out and hook it up.It was after that when I got rid of it for good. Now we just watch a good family video (on a small TV that is stored in a closet)every once a week or less and we do it as a family.Good Luck and I hope it goes well for you.
