My First Post

Hello!  This is my first entry! WooHoo!

We are in the middle of remodeling the kitchen.  What a mess!  I have held off on cleaning my living room/dining room, because what we have is a 'great room' (basically means everything is in one room...lol).  There is a thick layer of dust on everything.  All the contents of my kitchen cupboards are in boxes in the dining room, and spread out all over my dining room table.  Last night I decided to make dinner, but then realized I don't have a sink for washing dishes!
I will be so thankful when it is all done.  I feel a bit guilty for the amount of money we are spending on it, but I know I will be living here the rest of my life (that's the plan anyway).  I also know a nice kitchen ads value to the home, but still it feels a little excessive.
I am really looking forward to cooking my first meal on my new stove!  It will be so nice to have gas again, I do NOT like cooking on electric!  I should make something really yummy! Any suggestions?
I also know I will feel inspired to cook, and hopefully the 'newness' of it won't wear off quickly!

Well, the sun is shining, FINALLY!  We have had a very wet and gloomy winter here.  It is soooo nice to see the sun!  Last weekend we went down to the river with our good friends and had lunch.  The sun felt wonderful!

My plum, peach and pear trees have all finished blooming.  The apple are in bloom now, and so pretty.  My cherries hardly had any flowers.  So it looks like no cherries again.  Last year we only had a few.  This will be our second year since we bought this house.  I am not very familiar with fruit trees.  I need to find out why we aren't getting any cherries!  I have 2 pear trees and only had 2 pears last year too!  The trees are pretty young, I don't know if that may be the problem.  I need to do some research.

OK, I better get off the computer!  I have to scale Mt. Washmore today!

Welcome to Homesteadblogger! Remodeling your kitchen must be a big task but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end : ) I hope you post pictures of your new kitchen if you can. Have a wonderful day!

I just popped in to say welcome to the hsb community! I enjoyed your first blog too. We recently painted our great room, ceiling and hall then had new carpet laid. I know the chaos!! It's so worth it now though. Hope to see pictures of your kitchen.
Blessings, Karen ~j~

as for enjoying your kitchen "hopefully the 'newness' of it won't wear off quickly!", we tiled our bathroom and shower last year. I still look at it and think "I love this shower!" and it amuses my husband every time I say it. You will enjoy it for a LONG time to come. and the price will be worth the value of it, if it is what you want and can last for as long as you need/want it to last.

Hey Cindee!!

Welcome to Homestead Blogger! I'm so glad you have joined us here. This is a great place for asking all those tough homestead type questions. Be sure and check out the "Front Porch" area because there are always a lot of great tips and information there.

Depending on whether your trees are dwarf, semi-dwarf or full size, it can take 3 to 4 years to get a full crop of fruit - sometimes longer! Fruit trees are definitely a long term investment. Cherries, especially, will fail to produce if there was rain during the critical pollination period in mid-April. I'll have a big article on fruit trees in the upcoming New Harvest, so look for that too!

I'll look forward to reading your blog and, hopefully, more of those nice visits! :)

Blessings!

Lisa

Glad to see a new face around here! I agree about gas stoves ... I was so glad to get mine back when we moved to our new home.

Don't know about cherries but I know that fruit trees have to be reasonably old to have fruit. We have an apple tree that we are guessing is about 100 years old and still bearing fruit (when the frost doesn't get the flowers first!).
