THE WORD OF GOD SERIES BY CANDY FOOTE
It's a Frugal Idea
We have an excellent family set-up.
My husband works nights and we
homeschool our children. This enables
us to have our big meal at noon instead
of at night.
Here are some of the advantages:
1. It's healthier.
2. The whole family is home.
3. I'm not too tired to cook a big meal.
4. We save a lot of grocery money because
people are more apt to eat the left-overs a few
hours later, rather than the next day.
"Hey, Mom, is there any of that ... left." (A few hours later.)
"What is that!" (The next day. ) ; )

I really miss it - my husband used to work nights when my oldest children were small - and we always had our "dinner" for the noon meal - and he took his lunch to work for his evening meal - then we essentially had typical "lunch" fare for dinner. I miss it being that way - you have time to burn off the heavy meal, and it is so much more relaxing in the evening. No big dinner clean up. I don't like him being gone at nights - but this was definitely one great advantage.

It used to be like that here when most men worked close to home and came in at lunch time, but with working patterns changing the main meal is in the evening. It's a pity because it is healthier to eat earlier in the day. The only day we get to eat our main meal at this time is Sunday after church. The great thing is that it usually fills me enough that I don't need much for the rest of the day, unlike the rest of the week!

I would like to start doing this also.
Hubby is no longer working normal office hours and I think there are a lot of advantages of having the main meal at lunch. The only thing I wonder about is hospitality. It's likely we will be doing alot of that. Do you do something differently if you have people coming over for dinner?
Blessings,
Tracy
It's a lovely thing to do...
When I lived in England as a child growing up we always had the main meal at lunch. Even at school. It is certainly better for you. It's just lovely to be able to spend the time together as a family around the dinner table.
thanks for sharing
