Birthdays

{ 10:53 , Tuesday, March 9, 2010 } { 2 comments } { Link }

Birthdays are a big deal around here.

We never have school on a birthday!

Do you have school on birthdays?

Today is our son, Jacob Paul's 14th birthday!

I can't believe it has been 14 years, but the kids did the math and it adds up.

Quick Trip to Town

{ 11:50 , Wednesday, February 24, 2010 } { Posted in Frugal Living } { 2 comments } { Link }

Hubby had the day off yesterday,so we got to run to town together.

We went to the bread store and picked up four loaves of bread.  After coupons, the four loaves of bread only came to 56 cents!

Then, we treated each other out to lunch.  This was a nice treat!

Of course, I had a coupon!  I got a whole sub for the price of a 1/2 sub!

Yippee!  I love couponing!!!

Stocking the Pantry

{ 06:45 , Thursday, February 18, 2010 } { Posted in Frugal Living } { 4 comments } { Link }

I have been busy doing a lot of planning.

I have been filling my Homemaker's Notebook with all of these plans.

The main sections that I have been focusing on lately are 'Stock the Pantry' 'Stock the Freezer' and 'Stock-up on Non-food Items'.

As many of you know, I have been stocking up through strategic shopping.

What you don't know is why.

Our main reason for stocking up isn't just to have things available for our family.  We want to be prepared at all times to help others in need.

Are you stocking up?  Why?

If you are only stocking up for yourself, then I think you need to rethink things.

Yes, it is great to be prepared and to take good care of your family, but if that is where it ends, then something is wrong.

I have heard many Christians say that they stockpile in order to be sure that their families will have enough if disaster strikes.

I say, you can't stockpile enough to get your family through many disasters.

So, what is my point?

Yes, take  good care of your family, but let it be a larger vision than just that.

As you take care of others, God will step in and take care of you in your time of need.

Walgreen's

I was told that Walgreen's has put out new store coupons.

They are suppose to be right beside the door.

I will have to look when I go on Friday.

Make sure you get your store coupons and match them up with manufacture coupons.

Coupons

{ 01:08 , Friday, February 12, 2010 } { Posted in Frugal Living } { 0 comments } { Link }

Are  you wondering if couponing actually works?  Do you wonder if it's worth it?

Well, my question to you is, is it worth it for you to stay at home instead of working out?  (I'm talking to women whose husbands are already working out.)

I'm not exaggerating!

Remember, it's not how much  you have coming in that matters, but how much is going out.

Yes, finding coupons, rebates, free sampes, and the actual sales can be time consuming, but at least you are at home and free to work on it at a time that worksfor you.

If you are considering spending 40 hours a week at a job, then spending a few hours a week couponing at home should be able to easily fit into your schedule instead.

Weigh the costs and consider making this year the you get serious about couponing.

I am so excited to have a very special guest writer here today.  If you don't already know Laurie Neumann, then you are truly missing out.  Laurie runs a home-based business that teaches how to run your own home-based business.  She has been invaluable to me!

Here is Laurie:

Ways to Earn Extra Money and Add Purpose

Are you looking for ways to earn extra money while you homeschool your children?  I am a former homeschooling parent and have had much contact with other homeschoolers.  I have found this to be a common desire among them.  But many don't feel they have the time or have any idea of how to go about it.

One of the ways to earn some extra money is by starting a home based business.  I know what you're saying - WHEN?  But if you look at your schedule closely, you may find more time than you think.  Consider the time that your kids are working on projects or reading, before they are up or after they go to bed.  Maybe on Saturdays you can even squeeze a couple of hours in.

You don't have to make the business your whole life.  I would recommend starting out small and letting it grow over the years while you are homeschooling.  When your kids graduate, you may be very glad you have a business to work on.  I found myself wondering what in the world I would do when I wasn't homeschooling any longer.  My home business was the answer.

The second part to this is to choose a business you enjoy and can use the gifts and talents God has given you.  You may not feel you are short on purpose in your life right now, but it is actually a wonderful thing to have something to work on that fits who you are and allows you to express your interests and skills.

As your business grows, you may even be able to include your children in it and let them see firsthand what business and marketing are all about.  Even younger children can be given smaller tasks to complete, giving them practical experience.

There are other ways to earn extra money, such as getting a part-time job.  However, I feel that a home based business can fit perfectly into your goal of being home with your children and teaching them practical life skills.

Laurie Neumann is a Home Business Coach and will help you choose and launch a business that fits you and your life.  Visit  Small Business Consulting for details.

Walgreens

{ 09:44 , Sunday, February 7, 2010 } { Posted in Frugal Living } { 3 comments } { Link }

I know that I said Rite Aid was my favorite store for finding great deals, but Walgreens just took over that place!

(Rite Aid is my 2nd favorite now.)

Walgreen's offers register rewards.  I like to call them Walgreen's money.

I went through the store and bought the products that offered Walgreen's money.  I paid $26.00, and yes I did use coupons too.

They gave me back $32.00 in Walgreen's money.

I turned around and bought the stuff on my needs shopping list with this free money.

By using coupons, buying on sale, and using the register rewards, I bought over $70.00 worth of stuff and paid $3.02.

I got paid to buy  eye drops and a gluclose testing machine.

The eye drops were on regularly $9.99.  They were on sale for $7.99.  I had a coupon for $2.00 off, so I paid $5.99.  I received $8.00 in register  rewards for buying it!

The gluclose testing machine was on sale for $14.99.  I had a $5.00 coupon, so I paid $9.99.  I received $10.00 in register rewards, so they paid  me a penny right there.  Then, there was a $14.99 rebate on it.  I got paid $15.00 to buy it!

I am not lucky!  I am a strategic shopper.  You can be too!

Hey, be sure and check out this review on my book, "The Word of God on Healing."

Frugality

{ 08:43 , Friday, February 5, 2010 } { 2 comments } { Link }

I have always been frugal, but this year I am down right serious about it.  I have it in my head that it's not how much money that comes into the home, but how  much goes out that matters.

With that said, I get a kick out  of how this affects the kids.  It is not unusual for the little kids to come running and yelling, "Hey, Mom, look, I found a coupon!"  LOL

Be sure to check back here next Wednesday.  I will be having Laurie Neumann from http://www.christianhomebusinessconnection.com/ as a guest writer!

Price Chopper

{ 09:11 , Monday, February 1, 2010 } { 1 comments } { Link }
The Sunday paper has some of the best coupons. I use facebook! I just add friends who search for the best internet coupons. Even Save-A-Lot's offers online coupons for their already cheap products. I never shop at Rite Aid without a $5.00 off coupon. You can get them on their webpage for taking a few minutes to watch their commercials. They give you the coupons for the products in the commercials too.
This week, Price Chopper has two coupons in their circular that will double two manufactures coupons up to $3.00. That's a possible $6.00 off one item. I picked laundry soap that cost $5.99. I had a $3.00 coupon that they doubled, so they paid me a penny!

Frugal

I am a very frugal person.  Perhaps that comes with being the mother of twelve children.

I am determined to be even more frugal this year.

I am  learning to use coupons for maximum benefit.

I am following the sales, using store coupons and manufacturer coupons together, and learning about store bucks.

I am also getting more involved in rebates.

I really enjoyed listening to this seminar on couponing from www.StartSavingWithCoupons.com

Are you determined to be more frugal this year?

Remember, it's not how much money comes into the home, it's how much is going out.

Birthdays

{ 03:55 , Saturday, January 16, 2010 } { 1 comments } { Link }

January is packed full of birthdays at the Foote house.

Olivia's 15th birthday was on January 1st.  Yup, she was our New Year's baby!

Judson's 25th birthday was on January 14th.  Oh, my goodness, how do I have a child who is a quarter of a century?!?!

Then, Judy will be turning 7 on January 31st.

We have the whole month covered.  The first, the thirty-first, and right dab in the  middle.

We love birthdays around this house!  Birthday gifts are brought out as soon as we can roll everyone out of bed.  We sing happy birthday and watched the birthday boy or girl open the gifts.  Then, everyone takes turns saying something nice about the birthday boy/girl.  We speak blessings over him and say a prayer.

There isn't any school on birthdays.  Everyone, except the one who is celebrating their birthday, helps clean up and prepare for the party.

All of the siblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, and friends show up to have a huge pizza party.

Momma spends all of her time out in the kitchen cooking between 15 - 20 homemade pizzas.

We top it off with birthday cake.

If you know their is a birthday party going on, come on over!

Cleaning Out

{ 09:17 , Wednesday, January 13, 2010 } { 4 comments } { Link }

I am determined to get this new  year off to a fresh start!

I spent last week weeding through and purging books, school papers, magazines, and newspapers.

We had books in every single room of the house!

Not only does the house look cleaner, I found my desk, and made some extra cash from used books that have just been underfoot.

This week, I have been focusing on clothing, blankets, sheets, coats, hats and mittens.

ALL of the laundry is getting done.

Now, I'm weeding and purging all of the extras.

Where did all of these clothes come from?!?!?!

I have huge bags of really nice clothes for disaster relief.

I have a small  bag of rags.

Plus, I even got some free material.  (Old clothes, blankets and sheets make great free material!)

Are you weeding and purging around your house to start off this new year?

Let's start off the new year fresh!

Crocheting

{ 04:37 , Monday, January 4, 2010 } { 0 comments } { Link }

Christmas is over, and I'm still crocheting.

I have created my new homemaker's notebook for the new year.

In it, I have written different goals for the year.

I thought it would be nice to start the new year out with a bunch of new dishrags for my own kitchen.

I made a lot of them for Christmas gifts, but somehow my own kitchen always gets neglected.

I made a dozen dishrags and tucked them into my kitchen sink drawer.

Now, I'm making some soakers to dry my dishes on.

I'm excited about these soakers!  Usually, I just set the dishes onto a towel.

When I finish my soakers, I'm going to make some 100% cotton washcloths for the bathroom.

I have also written out some things I would like to crochet for next Christmas.

Are you still crocheting?

Do you make a homemaker's notebook each new year.

The Twelve Days of Christmas

{ 03:04 , Tuesday, December 15, 2009 } { 3 comments } { Link }

From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were

not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone

during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.

It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning

plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each

element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality

which the children could remember.

-The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

-Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching,  Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.

-The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness,  Faithfulness,

 Gentleness, and Self Control.

-The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.

-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

Cool, huh!?!

Mary Had a Little Lamb

{ 08:16 , Sunday, November 29, 2009 } { 1 comments } { Link }

Mary Had a Little Lamb

Unknown Author

Mary had a little lamb,
His fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
The Lamb was sure to go.

He followed her to school each day,
T'wasn't even in the rule.
It made the children laugh and play,
To have a Lamb at school.

And then the rules all changed one day,
illegal it became;
To bring the Lamb of God to school,
Or even speak His Name.

Every day got worse and worse,
And days turned into years.
Instead of hearing children laugh,
We heard gun shots and tears.

What must we do to stop the crime,
That's in our schools today?
Let's let the Lamb come back to school,
And teach our kids to pray!

Thanksgiving Traditions

{ 01:25 , Wednesday, November 25, 2009 } { 2 comments } { Link }

Another favorite Thanksgiving tradition at our house involves the cooking.

Each one of the kids makes their own special recipe.

Mmm, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

Jordan is making pumpkin pie and pumpkin roll.

Olivia is making cheesecake.

Jacob is making peppermint patties.

More Thanksgiving Traditions

{ 12:54 , Tuesday, November 24, 2009 } { 1 comments } { Link }

A newer Thanksgiving tradition at our house includes a present.

Don't groan!  I know most people don't want to hear about Thanksgiving Day gifts with Christmas so close, but this one works out well for the holidays.

I give each person a nice outfit.  It's a dressy type outfit.  This actually takes the pressure off from mom.

It makes sure that everyone has something to wear to all of those special places we go to throughout the holiday season.

Thanksgiving Traditions

I love Thanksgiving;  don't you?!?

We are having a huge gathering of family and friends.

Lots of food, family and fun for us!

I started a cute little tradition with my family years ago.

It's so simple, yet it makes kids so happy.

I go to the junk stores (thrift shops) and buy a bunch of pretty wine glasses.  Everyone gets to pick out their own 'special' glass.  We tie Christmas ribbons onto the stems of the glasses, then write our names on the glass with a permanent marker.  That's it!  The kids thing this is wonderful!

We fill our punch bowl with lemonade and drink out of our 'special' glasses.

Tell me about some of your traditions.

Are You Prepared

{ 03:00 , Thursday, November 19, 2009 } { 2 comments } { Link }

I only have a few things left to pick up for our Thanksgiving dinner.  I need to get fresh veggies and fruit still.

Are you prepared for your dinner?

I am sending out our family picture instead of traditional Christmas cards this year.

I have been getting them prepared to send out the day after Thanksgiving.

Are you sending out Christmas cards this year?

Are they ready to be mailed?

Thanksgiving

It is so hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just over a week away!

I guess it would be easier to believe if it weren't in the 70s in Northern New York!

We actually had a bar-b-que today!!!!

Hey, I'm hoping this weather stays.  I say, let's eat Thanksgiving dinner outside too!

Crocheting

The problem is, while I'm crocheting one Christmas present, my mind keeps coming up with more ideas, so my to do list is getting longer and the days to Christmas is getting shorter.
