Call To The Wall

Call to the wall

Isa 62:6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, [which] shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence,

Isa 62:7 And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

A call to prayer and intercession is sometimes referred to as a "call to the wall."

A powerful thing happened when the Lord placed it on the heart of one of the elders of our church to start prayer meetings.  The Lord has said, "My house shall be called a house of prayer."  Of course, no one could have known that, shortly after our prayer meetings started, 9-11 would happen.

Then we learned of some women being held in prison in Afghanistan.  It was good to participate in seeing God release these prisoners and seing them returned home.

In addition to our church and our personal needs, our intercession immediately took on a global concern.

My personal approach to prayer is that it helps me in finding the mind of God.  It's not so much to tell God what I want done as to come to know His will.  I do tell God what I would like to see done but I always add, "nevertheless, not my will but Thine be done."  I think Jesus set that pattern when He prayed "If at all possible let this cup pass from me."  That is what I want.  But He added, "Nevertheless, not my will but Thine be done."  That is where I surrender my will to His.

A "watchman" isn't just someone who just sits around and prays.  A watchman is active in alerting the church to danger.  I know one time I felt like I had gone to sleep on the wall.

Isa 56:10 His watchmen [are] blind: they are all ignorant, they [are] all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.

I even signed my nick as "sleepingdog" because this thing had snuck up on me.  One day I opened an email in which I read that all the women in this certain movie had cried after viewing it.  This hit me as strange.  Later I found out this movie was Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" based on Anne Catherine Emmerck's book, "The Dolorous Passion of the Lord Jesus Christ."   While I was sleeping on the wall, concerned with my own problems, this potentially dangerous movie had infiltrated the church!  Thankfully, the Lord has a lot of intercessors on the wall because other people were wide awake and had already begun to testify to the church and attempting to alert the church to this potential danger.

[I'm copying these verses from the Blue Letter Bible web site.  It's really convienient to be able to clip and copy stuff when writing.]

Another big area of intercession has to do with salvation.  St. Augustine said, "Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee."  I pray that unsaved loved ones and friends and people that I encounter will be restless until they rest in Him.  No one can come to the Lord unless he is drawn because salvation comes not by the will of the flesh nor the will of man but by the will of God.  It is our pleasure to be a part of God's work in salvation.  No one knows how He saves but we are admonished to sow seeds because we don't know which will spring up and which will not.  It is really encouraging though, to see someone drawn to the Lord or to hear another person's testimony.  It is like coming upon a well of water in a dessert when we run across another Christian proclaiming the word and giving testimony.

Wonderful post. Our church has a prayer meeting....... our little church is called: Jesus House of Prayer. My pastor belives that is so critical for the body to pray , to be intercessors...... we pray a lot at church.......
I believe in the power of prayer -- where 2 or more are gathered in His name, so He shall be there also.
Please pray for my husband ~ he is not saved, and truly needs the Lord Jesus. Thank you!

Prayer

I remember praying for my husband and talking to him. My Pastor would come to the house and they would go at it for a couple of hours. Julio eentually converted from Roman Catholic Church. I remember finding some peace in the Ecclesiastes scripture about casting your bread upon the water. We cast our bread upon the water and it returns to us after many days. The mother of Moses cast her baby upon the water not knowing where he would go nor what would happen to him. Everywhere Julio went there was another Christian to witness to him. It's like that poem Hound of Heaven. Praise God!
