Good Monday Morning!

Posted in On The Homefront

We had such a beautiful weekend here in Oregon!  The weather was just gorgeous, sunny and warm and that sweet smell from the trees was in the air.  I wish I knew exactly where the sweet smell comes from, but it's always there when it's warm and the sun hits the trees.

Saturday I helped my daughter pick up a few last things before her baby arrives.  On Friday the doctor said it could be anytime now or three weeks from now - LOL!  Thanks!  The waiting is the hard part now!

I also picked up some Brandywine tomato plants - MY FAVORITE, zucchini, yellow squash and a cherry tomato for the garden.  I need my husband to get those raised beds done but I'm trying not to nag.

Sunday was church and then another baby shower for Molly.  I just love all those little clothes.  And I have to admit that I have a love affair with baby shoes - just too darn cute!

I'm looking to purchase a pressure cooker/canner and would love input from anyone who has one.  I'm thinking I would prefer a gasketless one and I'm trying to figure out just how big I need.  I want to use it mainly for canning.  I plan to do a lot this summer and I think this is the way to go.  Any help and experience would be greatly appreciated!

Have a wonderful Monday!

Julia

I just found this post with your question. I am sorry I missed it.

I have a 22-qt canner. It is large enough to do 7 quarts or 16 pints or 22 half-pints, stacked 2 or three high. it is a nice size. plus it is big enough to boil turkey carcasses for a week in November (I beg for the carcasses from neighbors, family, friends, teachers so I have a supply of broth to last me all year!) I kind of wish I had a slightly bigger one - only 4 1/2-gallon jars will fit, which is not really all that more effective than 7 quarts. but then, how many 1/2-gallon jars am I going to do?
