Two Diapers Made....

How many more to go? I have finally sat down and started making Emily cloth diapers. I am such a procrastinator. But anyways. It took me a while to do the first one yesterday, but today since I had some experience, it took me about an hour to make the second one. Now I'm just not sure about how many I will be needing. Generally she uses anywhere from 5 to 7 disposable diapers a day. She turned 2 in April and will probably not need these for long, but better late than never, especially when you're saving money and I can stick them back for possible future children...God willing. I guess I'll start off with about 10 and see how we're doing then. I can wash every day if need be, but would like to be able to wash every other day. The diapers I made are pocket diapers. I used some plain ole white PUL fabric for the outside and some leftover flannel for the inside. For the stuffers I'm using some microfiber kitchen towels I got at Walmart. For now until I get enough done I'm alternating the cloth diapers I have with disposables. It worked really good. The only problem I've incurred so far is a little problem with the velcro. Does it soften up a bit as you wash it or do I need to trim it up or just use something else all together? It chafed her leg a bit and I don't want it to irritate her skin. I'm going to shoot for making one diaper a day until I get enough. I'll try and post a picture of one as soon as I get a chance. These aren't professional grade at all, but they work for us. She was able to wear one of the cloth diapers for a couple of hours and then I only took it off to check it and decided to change her then. Anyways, I would love to hear your opinions on the velcro and any cloth diapering tips. Oh, and I got the pattern from here... Mama Bird cloth diapersBlessings, Sara

Hello There...

That is so great that you are making your own cloth diapers!! I would love to learn how to make some for my little guy too. I bought some off of ebay, and was using them all last week. They are fitted ones with velcro (I got a great deal on them). They are plain white. I also use pins with them because my little man is really bad about pulling his diapers off!!

We used the diapers all last week but he developed a really bad rash. So I switched back to disposables until the rash goes away.

Have a great day,

Jennifer

I trimmed the Velcro on the other diaper...from the squared-off piece, to a slightly rounded one (ok...way out of round, but it works!)
How is your Velcro placed? The stiffer hook side of mine is on the inside of the diaper, on those back flaps...the softer loop piece is on the outside front of the diaper.

I never thought about the micro-fiber toweling. I'll have to look into that. Great idea!
