Stuck Between Two Worlds

- Post Comment ~*~Dream All You Dreamers~*~

Have you ever felt like you never truly belonged somewhere?  I've always been a little bit of an outsider...not necessarily because I felt inadequate, but because I've had waaay too many interests.  Like much of the younger generation, I blame my parents for this.

Now, before you go calling me ungrateful...let me explain.  My parents actually did a GOOD job raising me.  My father took me to the zoo as a baby so that I knew most of the animals there by name, before I could walk.  My mother came from a farm from Europe, so I grew up getting up-close-and -personal lessons in sewing, knitting, cooking, embroidery and craftswork.....
And I had a massive fascination with art, which my parents fostered.  It also helped that I had stories of my family's "old world" experiences.....ALL of this would help shape me....

The problem?  I ended up being an artist who moved SMACK into the middle of New York City, with all of the big city trappings (yes, I'm a vegetarian, yes, I love the museums and high art), but with country girl sensibilities (Yes, I want to move to a farm, I love embroidery and jam making, and I don't MIND wearing aprons)....so, you see the dilemma here, right?

How do I go about negotiating these two very different worlds?
HA!  The end result is a performing arts chick with, uhhm, very interesting hair, who dances, takes care of animals, and writes for magazines.  One who also happens to garden in the teeensy city backyard (hey, I grow GREAT heirloom tomatoes), still makes jam, and just started an online magazine for people like me.

You know, the kind that has to settle for going to farmer's markets, who gardens on their fire escape, and secretly knits.  We're a  little bit country, AND a little bit rock and roll.  Hmmm......

This would be me.  Not your typical farmgirl?   I know, but I hope to work on a happy coexistence between the sassy city life and rural wisdom.  I am really respectful and so happy to learn so many new things.

If you're interested, here is my humble little site: www.bigtownfarmer.com

I really hope to learn new things here, and exchange information.

About Me

Welcome to the tales of a city girl trying to bridge the gap between rustic charm and the hectic world of the city. I live for rural bliss. I make crafts, I love animals and nature. I just happen to live in the city. I'm starting the "rurban" (rural/urban) movement. I just happen to own an online magazine regarding all of this ~ See more at: www.bigtownfarmer.com
