Rednezvous
We are back. It was a beautiful site that sits about 4200 feet in the Cascade mountain range. I made a laof of sourdough bread each day, and within an hour or so it was usually gone. I never could get it to crisp up like I do here at home.. but it still tasted really good. DH and I also made main dishes for the contest, he made his Chile Verde, and I made the chicken enchilada casserole, along with the bread.. I got second place with my casserole:> and won a neat clay pot insert for my dutch oven. My SIL won first place, with a black forest choc cake, it was really good.
We didnt have as large of a turn out as we had hoped for..80-90 shooters.. it was nice in the fact that both my brothers and their families were up there and we camped fairly close.
The weather was horrible from Friday on, lots of cold wind and rain, mixed in with fog, ice pellets and snow. COLD!!! very cold... I was so glad to get home and get a shower, after we unpacked the pickup and had to setup the wet tent and hang up the wet fly.
Answer to Prayer
A few weeks ago, I was chatting with my Mom and happened to mention that I was checking out mills to grind rice - we have been having a hard time finding brown rice flour that (1) doesn't cost an arm and a leg and (2) is fine like regular flour. She told me that she thought my sister would be willing to part with her Vita-Mix .... I asked her to see if she would and never heard anything back, so I figured that it was a dead end and I'd need to start checking out mills again.
Last night we went for supper with my Mom and my sister, when we left the restaurant I gave my Mom the quilt that she had made for Don and I (it needed some warranty work done on it, lol) and my sister handed me her Vita-Mix, told me how much she wanted for it (a fraction of the price of a new one), I said "Done" and we took it home.
Today, I put in some brown rice to give it a test run - WOW!!!!!!!!! In no time at all I had fine ground brown rice flour. This machine came to us at the perfect time - our blender has been needing to be replaced for a while now, I've been kind of nursing it along (only using it when I absolutely had to) so that it would last until we could get a new one (I had been saving up for a Kitchen Aid blender). Now I won't have to worry that the blender will die when I make blender muffins, lol.
Talk about an answer to prayer - if we are patient enough, God blesses so much more than if we just go out and get the first thing that catches our eye (I've had numerous opportunities to get a new (cheaper) blender in the past month and I've kept saying "nope, I'll wait ... rather than settle on something that I'll be stuck with, I'll wait". God is soooooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!
Another wonderful birthday
So, on Wednesday I became another year older (37 years now ). It was a really wonderful day - low key, just the four of us.
It truly amazes me at how much patience I am getting, normally I want my presents as soon as my eyes are opened in the morning ... but I'm slowly getting where I can actually wait until everyone (that helps to celebrate my birthday) is gathered. This year, even though the kids (mainly Josh) were urging me to open some of my presents during the day (while Don was at work), I refrained .... I did, however, reach the end of my patience when Don tried making me wait until Charlotte had finished eating (she really, really enjoys savouring her food, rofl). There was a definite theme to my gifts this year .... stuff for my DS (games, protective case, stylus's, etc), a crystal apple and a bottle of wine. For supper, Don bbq'd some steaks and mushrooms, we had baked potatoes and the green pea salad - it was a really great evening. My Mom phoned and passed along birthday wishes .... I was actually surprised that some of the people that normally phone (or email) me on my birthday, didn't - guess they had more important things to do (or maybe no one reminded them, lol).
OH!!!! I almost forgot to mention the, absolute, best part of the day ..... my birthday cake - Black Forest, mmmmmmmmmm (hands down, my most favourite kind of cake )
