Teacups, a Birthday and Traditions
Posted in Everyday Happenings
When my oldest daughter, Abby, turned 16, I bought her a special tea cup. We had been collecting various tea cups for two years previous, but I wanted a special one just for her on her special day. I found a lovely pink one with roses on it. The rose is her favorite flower and it's also the flower for the month of June, which is when her birthday is, and since her middle name is Rose (after her great-grandmother), I thought it was the perfect choice. She absolutely loved it! From then on, began the tradition of buying her a tea cup for each birthday. She turned 19 yesterday (June 21st) and again I was able to find a cup with roses on it. This is the one for her most recent birthday She's well on her way now to having her own collection that she will be able to take with her when she leaves our nest one day. And hopefully she will have fond memories attached to each one. This is her collection so far
Do you have daughters? Are there any tradions that you have started with them? Please share with us, if you like.
**My Note** I realize that this entry really has nothing to do with homesteading. LOL! But I think that many of us here are tea drinkers and enjoy sharing things like this with our daughters.

Jun. 22, 2006 - Christmas ornaments

Hi Anne! Every year at Christmas I buy a special ornament for Hannah ~ she has her own tree in her bedroom that she sets up. After a couple of years of my doing it, my folks jumped on the wagon, and sometimes her aunt does too! Hannah already has enough to completely cover her 4 ft. fake tree, and probably enough to nicely decoate a small 6 ft tree.
We have many trees in our house at Christmas time ~ we do make a big deal of the whole "wointer season" from Thanksgiving onto to Christmas.

Anne,
I have decided to start blessing my dd with a cookbook each year from now until she leaves our 'nest'..She turns 11 this year and should have quite a treasury of lovely cookbooks to start out with~some are ones that have been passed down to me and these ones I will decide which ones to bless our ds with too...after all, our sons should know how to cook too!
Love,
Lynne

I love, love, love the photo of your daughter's collection. I have been collecting tea cups for many years, and I noticed the older I get the fancier they get. I now watch for older cups on eBay - once in a while you can get a sweet deal - I especially love the odd footed ones, which are hard to come by, and the lovely painted Japanese ones. Enjoy your collecting and passing on to your daughter. I have a 7 and a 10 year old daughter, they each have a miniature set. Not ready to give them big ones yet!
