Our Little Homeschool Farm

Thursday, December 29, 2005 ~ Confession

Okay, almost everyone here seems to have goats, including me. BUT, we just got them last month, and on top of it, *we* my DH and I, don't know what kind they are. We got them from a friend who was trying to get rid of them for a friend. SO, what kind of goats do we have, or what kind of goats do you think we have?

They definitely don't like their picture taken, I don't know if that factors in. This is the best I could take....and I took many.

This is Mr.Goat

and this is Mrs.Goat.

Clever names huh? My DH has come up with some Armenian name for them, but I can't remember....I can't even pronounce it. BTW, ALL our animals have Armenian names, except for the 2 untrained dogs and fat lazy cat we have. We haven't named the fowl, or rabbits either........Okay, I take it back, the horse, donkey, sheep and goats have Armenain names. Unfortunately, I just relized that.

Again, can anyone tell me what kind of goats I have?

God Bless,

Amber

It's hard to tell from those pics, but I think maybe a pygmie or Nigerian Dwarf on the first one, and a Nubian on the second.

The second goat - the one with the floppy ears looks very nubian-ish. Not sure about the other - a mix of some sort? They're cuties, whatever they are - goats are so much fun!

Hi Amber,
I would have to agree with Dalyn, I think the top one looks like a Pygmy mix and the bottom looks like a Nubian mix. Mixes can be really hard to identify. All I can really say for sure is that they don't have the coloring to be Saanens, Toggenburgs or Alpines. And their ears are too big to be LaManchas. Nubians have floppy ears, that is why it appears that the bottom one is part Nubian.
http://www.fiascofarm.com/goats/breeds.htm This is a great site to help you learn about the breeds, what they look like and other characteristics. Hope it helps.
By the way, I couldn't get into my webpage either. Looks like the site is down. Sorry

I JUST started doing that this week. I was just using stuff from the grocery store. I'll get some Braggs at the health food store this week, and some raw honey. Thanks. Love all your animal pics, btw. We used to have Shetland X sheep - they are my favorites! God Bless,
Eleanor
