To the Hilt

the spanish mustang mare

I want her. I wantherIwantherIwanther.  *sigh*I know she's not exactly what most folks would post about, but I like her. She reminds me of Sugar, the grade appy mare that we lost to colic back in 1999. Man, I could go off on the trails with that mare... and I was only, what, ten? She was awesome. In this picture of the above mare, Castidad, I could swear that it actually is Sugar:

So is anyone out there coming to NY from the direction of Indiana? Personally, I was of the opinion that we should have made a detour in Ohio whilst returning from Tennessee, and go get her. Of course, we had no trailer with which to bring her home, nor had we paid an adoption fee, but those are just small obstacles. Anyway, I looked it up and the cost of shipping her commercially would be higher than her adoption fee (a woefully small $400). But she would be perfect for my father to ride on the trails. (Or myself, for that matter, when I'm not busy riding the Willowbean. Of course, I don't think anyone other than my mother will be taking Caedyrn on the trails anytime soon... not in his distractable "oh-my-goodness-it's-the-mounting-block-we've-been-riding-past-for-five-months-and-suddenly-I-realize-it's-there" penchants. Heheh. He's such a gorgeous nitwit.)

Pictures really are coming soon from the trip. Home computer is out for repairs, see. I'm relegated to library computers and snippets on my mother's work laptop that she brought home to do some spreadsheets on. *sigh*

an artist's take on barbaro

Being the owner of two OTTB's (Off-Track Thoroughbreds), I can empathize with the fans who followed Barbaro's story even closer than I did. I truly believed that he could take the Triple Crown - and that he would have, but for the tragedy. He was a great horse who will be missed by the world. Matz perhaps unconventional, but we need more conscientious folk like him in the racing business.

(See more Nick Anderson here.)

prayer request

Ehm... I know I said I was on hiatus. I still am. But... I have a prayer request. Please pray for our mare, Willow - that she would be calm, and not stress out and accidentally injure herself, because we had to put Tuck down on Tuesday due to a freak accident in which he somehow managed to impale himself, and they were extremely bonded. Umm... so, yeah. Your prayers are appreciated.

while they were grazing

Grazing peacefully, until...

"Psst. Hey... Tuck... I think she's taking pictures again..."

"Yep, it's that annoying camera lady again."  "But... she does bring good treats!"

I am going to try to take some full-body shots over the weekend. I will then post comparison photographs from shortly after they were first rescued, until now. We were looking at some candid shots today and comparing them, and the difference is amazing!

Check out the Friday Ark

Our horses are so dignified.

Oh, yes. Quite dignified. In fact, Tuck is thinking about starting a series of seminars on how you can be lazy enough to lay on the ground and still manage to stuff your face on grass in the new section of pasture!
