To the Hilt

strep is good for your social life

I learned a very important lesson this week: strep is good for your social life. You see, I made a new friend during the throes of strep throat and its dear old friend, fatigue. I had returned from the doctor and was content to merely sleep it all off now that I had the proper dosage of amoxicillin in my system, but this was not to be.

The dogs began to bark. Thinking that it was my grandparents coming over from across the street to "make sure that everything was okay", my mother went to the front door to warn them off. As it turned out, it was not a relative but a family friend who had brought along someone new for us to meet. While I did not get a chance to thank my friend for bringing by this new acquaintance, my mother did awaken me long enough to introduce me to this new fellow. We hit it off right away, despite (or perhaps due to) my foggy delirium.

So, without further delay, I give you Charles Wallace.

Charles Wallace

Yes, that is Charles Wallace, as in the Madeleine L'Engle character. What can I say, when I woke up at 4:00 a.m. with a severely sore throat that was swollen to the point that I could barely swallow, in my feverish state I was afraid to go back to sleep. (I'm irrational when I have a high fever, see.) So, I settled down for a half-hour with A Wind in the Door, my latest snatch from the library. While Charles Wallace did not play as large of a front-and-center role in the story, he stuck out to me. My fever made sure of that. So, I thought it only fitting that the snake who got me through the rest of my day with strep, should be named for a character who got me through a half-hour of fever-induced paranoia before I finally fell back off to sleep at 5:00 a.m.

I do say... its is a mighty good thing we did NOT accidentally sit on that ... that... thing... whilst we were roasting marshmallows about 8 hrs before they captured it.... needless to say... if we/i had... i would not be living... i would have suffered a severe heart attack..

so glad you are enjoying it though ;)
