To the Hilt

celebrate good times, come on!

My apologies for the hat tip to a strange song, but I truly do feel as if a celebration is in order. Whilst I sat upon the couch, my ankle under an ice pack on the table before me, my father came inside and interrupted me from my studious application of English Literature. "Look what I found!" he proclaimed. I did not get excited - the thought that it could be her had not even occurred to me. I leaned forward to catch a glance of what was in his arms, and I practically jumped up! I had to hobble, however, due to my ankle (trust me, said injury received a sound mental thrashing later on), and I came over and scooped her up from his arms, just repeating her name over and over to myself. "I thought she was dead! Oh, thank you!" I am not entirely sure who I was thanking: my father, for spotting her mosying over from the woodpile, or God, for keeping her from harm. I honestly did think that she was dead.

So, Sami has made it home. Underweight, a little matted, and smelling, oddly enough, of kerosene - but nevertheless, home.

Hungry, from her sojourn to who-knows-where.

For once in her lifetime, she wasn't being very photogenic. I think I'll forgive her.

This is about as celebratory as Noah gets. Actually, when I finally took her back outside so that she could get some food, I stood there calling to Noah, and he came bounding over from the woodpile. He actually ran! I haven't seen him run in a grand while. After she hissed at him, though, he paused in the driveway and waited for her to come to him.

"Oh, hey, wait a minute...

...oh, yeah. I remember you."

Disgruntled. Well, you'd be a little disgruntled, too, if you were in her state, wouldn't you? But then, I'm just pleased to say that her "state" happens to be "alive"!
