• Tuesday, August 26, 2008 - New Feelin' Feminine Site

Posted By Alli
Jocelyn from "A Pondering Heart" blog has made a site for Feelin' Feminine. I love this site. I think it's a great way to get the meassage that God wants to give all the girls about dressing modest.

You can also check out the "Simple Women's Daybook", "Saturday Psalm and Praise", "Thankful Thursday", and "Homemaker-In-Training", post comments, and sign the petition. The petition is just saying that you promise to help challenge all girls to dress feminine, showing the true beauty that God has created for us in the first place when He created earth.

Also, jump on over there and you can grab buttons and put them on your blog. They are another great way to get the word out to everyone. I think I might do that also.

Jocelyn has put her heart in this site.

Great job Jocelyn!

The Simple Woman’s Daybook - Page 6

My Simple Woman’s Daybook for today!

For today… Monday, August 25th, 2008.

Outside My Window… I can see the tree in the back field swaying in the wind. All is sunny outside.

I am thinking… that I need to get my Bible Reading Challenge post done for today… anyone still want to join? :)

I am thankful… the sunshine

From the kitchen… bagels…

I am wearing...a green different coloured skirt, a white youth soccer ball shirt, and am barefoot.

I am creating… Nothing at the present, maybe a clean house! :D

I am going… finish my Bible Reading Challenge post for today when I am done with this one.

I am reading… Still reading The Old Country by Sholom Aleichem. It’s the book that the great musical The Fiddler On The Roof was based off of. Pretty neat stories. Check it out! And I will also be reading Enoch Roden’s Training for the HSB Literary Club. I am also reading the Journeys Of Faithfulness by Sarah Clarkson, which I will be reviewing for Growing In Grace. Very good book!

I am hoping…to get everything cleaned up in a timely manner.

I am hearing… the kids outside in the alligator pool playing.

Around the house… Since all the kids are outside and Lu’s with Mom, I am not hearing any noise except for the clacking of the keyboard on which I type.

One of my favorite things…is to read God’s Word, and get closer to Him.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Well, I’ll write what I plan to do for today -clean up the house, make something sweet, maybe some chocolate chip cookies, get back to writing my pioneer book that I started two years ago and never finished, and check on the baby goats.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…

I thought this was a fun picture. I took it, looking up into our big maple in the front yard.

I have a feeling people just don't check my blog any more, because I don't write that offten! I am going to work on that!

We started school on Monday, it is a rather bitter sweet year for me. I am kind of sad when I think about how next year I will not be doing any school at home. I can honestly say I am not that excited to be done. It will be very neat though, because I will be able to help my mom a lot more. Doing lesson plans, and teaching the little girls. I want to be my mothers right hand, have things done that she would have never even thought about. (wish me luck with this because my mother is beyond amazing)

I was so glad to come home, but the most exciting part was seeing Nathan. (Sadly he is on Vk with his family this week) He came over and brought me beautiful roses! We went to dinner and then hung out at his house. His older sister is expecting a little girl any day. She is really excited. His other sister just went off to her second year of collage.

Home is where I long to be, there is no other place on earth that makes me so happy.

My Simple Woman's Daybook for today!

For today… Monday, August 18th, 2008.

Outside My Window… I can see the back field... that is now all mowed down and the wildflowers are GONE. :(

I am thinking… about how I only have two more articles to write for Growing In Grace Magazine for the September Issue... I got two done in two days! A World Record! lol

I am thankful… the beautiful blue sky outside that is such a pretty blue.

From the kitchen… I'm making a potato, carrot, bacon, and green bean soup with onions and spices! Can't wait to eat some. :) Anybody else want any? There's plenty!

I am wearing... Blue teddy bear-cloud pj pants, yellow shirt with flowerpots on it, bear feet, and my hair is up in a ponytail.

I am creating… A little book for my Bible Study Notes. It's a really cute thing. Jocelyn found it online. She will be giving a little cute journal she made on her blog here pretty soon, so keep checking it out.

I am going… go eat some delicious soup after I am finished with this post. :)

I am reading… The Old Country by Sholom Aleichem. It's the book that the great musical The Fiddler On The Roof was based off of. Pretty neat stories. Check it out! And I will also be reading Enoch Roden's Training for the HSB Literary Club.

I am hoping… to work on my story some more today. By the way, thank you for all your suggestions... I'm still lost at picking a name! Got any more?

I am hearing… the rattle of spoons while the soup is being given out, and Caleb (2yo) looking at a book behind me.

Around the house… Everyone is getting ready to eat. Luli isn't feeling very good today. Isaac didn't fell very good last night either. Please pray for them.

One of my favorite things… is to bake something sweet, like cookies, or brownies, or a cake. I love trying something new in the kitchen. Does anyone have any recipes I can try?

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Well, I'll write what I plan to do for today - make some stationary, clean up the house, make something sweet, maybe some chocolate chip cookies, write more of my book, (I should say books!), and check on the baby goats.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…
This is Mr. Bennet, Jocelyn's Rhode Island Red rooster. He is one of the nicer roosters, and is very big! But he is the 'head of the henhouse'.

• Tuesday, August 12, 2008 - Praying to God

Posted By Alli in Simple Books
Did you know you can pray to God like you're talking to your friend? I did but I didn't know how to. Until I found this book called "Girl talk with God." Susie Shellenberger is the author. She's also the editor of Brio magazine.

This book is not like any other book. It does have chapters, but the chapters are drama scripts. In the beginning and end of each chapter has a paragraph or two of what Susie thinks and says about each chapter. In the scripts there's a girl, the same age as all of us, talking to God.

But this girl talks to God about everyday stuff - from becoming a Christian, to divorce, to sex, to having a boyfriend, to marriage. But she talks to God like she's talking to a friend. Every now and then God will tell her to look up a certain verse in the Bible. She won't know where she last left her Bible. So God will tell her where her Bible is.

Have you ever ran over a passage and not know what it meant? In this book it tells you what some important verses mean.

This book has inspired me to pray to God like I'm talking to a friend.

A little about the author:

Susie Shellenberger is the editor of Brio magazine, Focus on the Family's monthly publication for teen girls. Susie's a former high-school drama teacher and youth pastor. She also co-hosts Focus on the Family's weekly talk-radio show for teens: Life on the Edge: Live! Susie has written twenty-eight books and travels as a national speaker.

• Tuesday, August 12, 2008 - Peanut Butter Cookies

Posted By Alli in What's cookin' ?
My mom and I made these cookies Monday night. We were looking through our recipes and found this. It was a big hit. Daddy loves peanut butter cookies.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium sized bowl, combine 1 egg, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup peanut butter. Stir until thoroughly mixed. Plop spoonfuls of cookie dough onto a cookie sheet(about walnut-size dollops). Bake for about 12 minutes, or until brown. Cookies will still be soft when done(until cooled). Eat when cooled, will be very moist inside(YUM!).

Variation: For a twist...as cookies come out of oven press Hershey's kiss in middle of each cookie.

If you did something a little different to this recipe, I would love to hear from you.

DISCLAIMER: Mom doesn't remember where she got this recipe from, but she said it was probably from someone's blog. If you know where it originated, let me know

For today... Monday, August 11th, 2008.

Outside My Window... I can see the dewy fog being spotted on the grass as the sun is coming up. The grass in front of the barn looks like it snowed in front of it, because it is so white. And I can see Charcoal (our cat) sitting on the porch in front of the big window.

I am thinking... about a story I made up last night and how I want to write it down. And that I don't have a name for the main character in it! Got any suggestions? :)

I am thankful... beautiful morning that God has given me today. I don't think I will forget this wonderfully beautiful morning!

From the kitchen... cinnamon rolls! I plan to make some today... I made some a few days ago, but of course, they are gone now!

I am wearing... penguin pajama pants, a yellow shirt, my red sweater, my robe, and a pair of socks.

I am creating... a story today. Just a story. (and if I received a return letter, I will be writing another one back to whomever sent it.)

I am going... to be thinking a lot today, and probably cleaning a lot too!

I am reading... Millie's Unsettled Season, published by A Life Of Faith, based on the Martha Finley Series. I am reading it to review it for Growing In Grace Magazine.

I am hoping... that I can behave better than I did yesterday.

I am hearing... the birds' singing their early morning songs as the sun is coming up. There are many different ones, but I could not describe nor tell you what birds they were.

Around the house... No one is up but me, so it's quiet. Dad left for work about 5minutes ago, so I am alone now.

One of my favorite things... is to sit and write a story and imagine I am in the story.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Ooh.... I *want* to weed the garden, go on a bike ride, make some cinnamon rolls, write my story, journal, clean (of course), cook something today, read my book. (Not really for the rest of the week, but I am taking it one day at a time!)

Here is picture thought I am sharing...
Here is four pictures of the doe goat that I put together. I thought I would just give you a combination of them all! Left to right, top to bottom - Belladonna (my goat), Keci (Hannah's goat), Keci, Chloe and Eamena, (Chloe and Eamena are Jocelyn's), and they are there with Caleb, but Bella is there instead of Keci. He is feeding the, apples! :)

(They finnished the ship made from the world trade center! Her logo is "Never Forget" sadly I think they will, as they slip away from God history is rewritten every day)

Hi everyone!

I know it has been a while! (again) Right now I am in Navada. We are leaving on the 13 to go meet my family. I am so excited, because I miss my darling sisters more than I can explain. I can't wait to get home and see Nathan.

I have had a good time with my grandparents (as I do love to be spoiled) They have taken me to some pretty cool places. I went to a car show called Hot August Nights! I have a new found love for old cars! They were very cool. We also went to Vergina City, we took a ride on an old steam engian train and I fell in love with the view. I think that seeing the mountians in that way gave me that joy you feel when you just want to jump up and thank the Lord. He was so good to give us so many good things to look at when creating the world.

My grandpa has also taken the time to show me my family tree. This summer I have learned a lot about my family's history. My Auint Sylvia shared a lot of wonderful stories with me, and I can't wait to get home and tell them to you. I am sure you will be just as happy to see God's hand in delivering so many people as I was am.

I have ton's of pictures to show everyone when I get home, but I forgot my cord!

About Me

I'm a 17 yr. old girl who lives on and loves her 50 acre homestead in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I love all the animals that we own and appreciate their different and unique personalities. My days are spent working on the land with my family of 10 (#11 growing daily!). By working, playing and praying together we have become a very close knit family. There is always something going on, from the silliest stories to the most interesting homesteading processes and projects. I love living the way we do, I find peace in our fields, woods, creeks, animals, siblings and sunshine. I love having my family all together, we home-school and my dad is home working our homestead with us. Jesus is blessing us in our decision to do this, and while this lifestyle is not without it's thorns, He is always providing. I hope you enjoy your visit here, and may God bless you with the peace that homesteading brings.
