Crafting...
Hello friends. I am so glad you dropped by for a visit today. My pile is growing right? I have been spending most of my alone time in the evening working on different projects for the festival, only 22 more days! I have actually sold 2 sets of pumpkins off my kitchen table, so I am thankful for that. I know I had someone say they were interested in buying but didn't know how, just click here on my Etsy shop or you can look over to your left and click... you can find all my goodies there. :) Thanks!
Like I said, Shannon has been on an out of town job and so I have had quite a bit of time to myself after the children have gone to sleep... so my hands have been busy.
We have been schooling wherever I have been crafting... it is nice to spread books all over the floor and let the children work, a change of scenery is good for them sometimes. :)
I again want to thank you all for your kind comments and prayers for us during this time of uncertainty. We are so blessed to have so many care for us and pray for us. We appreciate you guys more than you know!!!
***Hey, is the Autumn Cottage too big for you ya'lls screen, it fits on mine, but I don't want it to be wonky on others. Please let me know.***

Sarah Palin, VP
I watched the Republican Convention last night. I was amused by Rudy Giuliani’s humourous speech. He put everything out there without hesitating to re-organize Obama’s community - I mean - campaign.
As many who were watching, I was waiting to hear Governor Palin’s speech. Since the news of McCain choosing her for Vice President there has been a lot of talk amongst homeschoolers about her, and Mother Dear and sister have been reading up about her and her family. Aside from some “dysfunctions” in her family, she seems like a pretty accomplished and big business woman.
Reading her page on wikipedia about her successful political career is definitely impressive - Alaska’s first female governor and has been cutting excessive spending since taking office. She was described as “Reagan in a skirt”. She’s said to be a conservative Christian republican, and these are her political positions, which seem to be great:
Palin has called herself as “pro-life as any candidate can be. “She would permit abortion only in cases where the mother’s life is in danger, and supports mandatory parental consent for abortions.
She backs abstinence-only education and is against “explicit sex-ed programs” in schools.
Palin supports capital punishment.
Palin opposes same-sex marriage[ and supported a non-binding referendum for a constitutional amendment to deny state health benefits to same-sex couples.
Palin has said she supports teaching both creationism and evolution in public schools, but not to the extent of adding creation-based alternatives to the required curriculum.
Palin has strongly promoted oil and natural gas resource development in Alaska, including in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). She has opposed federal listing of the polar bear as an endangered species warning that it would adversely affect energy development in Alaska. [Palin does not believe that global warming is human-caused.
Palin, a long-time member of the National Rifle Association, strongly supports its interpretation of the Second Amendment as protecting individual rights to bear arms, including handguns. She also supports gun safety education for youth.
Palin’s foreign policy positions were unclear at the time she was picked as McCain’s running mate. When asked for her views about troop escalations in Iraq, she replied “…while I support our president, Condoleezza Rice and the administration, I want to know that we have an exit plan in place…”
When she came out on the platform and started her speech she seemed to have it all together. She’s a pretty sort of lady and doesn’t have an annoying voice. She spoke confidently. Gave the crowd time to be alive and then quieted things down when she wanted to continue. I was impressed with some of the things she cut out of the governor’s luxuries when she became governor… such as a private jet, a chauffeur, and a personal chef. I think those were wise decisions and an area where many political figures seem to miss about “helping the middle class”.

Overall I think Palin was a great choice for a VP. She seems to have everything we want and need…However, I believe that when you form an opinion of someone you shouldn’t just look at one side. You can’t just look at a beautiful, red, shiny apple and say “wow, that’s a good apple”, though you can believe it to be.
To really know if it’s a good apple you have to take a bite and look in a little deeper. I believe it is the same with people, especially people who will be running our nation. It’s not being critical of someone or being prideful. It’s simply being a responsible and informed citizen.
You have to judge someone or something to form your opinion on it. Whether it’s good or bad, it’s still a judgment, so for those who say “don’t judge, don’t judge” you already have, but your judgment has been in her favour.
A little more info on Palin’s personal life… She’s a mother of five, apparently going to be “homeschooling”. She’s a hockey mom, an Army mom, a “special-needs-child” mom, and a soon-to-be-grandmother of her 17yo unwed-daughter, Bristol’s, baby. Bristol apparently will be marrying the father of her child. Say what?
Some are praising her for keeping the baby and saying “no one is perfect, don’t judge”. While others are just not happy with it, and that is fine. I am not happy with it, and I don’t think it is judging as people are making it to be. It’s not that we are casting stones at her. I know Jesus does and would gladly except this family into His arms, but the fact that people don’t want to vote her into the White House, away from her family for the next four years, is their problem.
I wonder what the chances would have been of Bristol getting pregnant if Sarah Palin had been the Titus 2 Woman at home with her children. Is there any chance this happened because mom was always working?
During the speeches last night one image gave me shudders. The picture of Palin’s children and husband sitting with McCain’s wife will be a common picture in the coming four years. Only after, when Momma was done with work, did she receive little Trig into her arms. It saddens me.

If God hadn’t set-up the family as He did - the father the provider, the women as the keeper of the home, and the children always under their care - and I wasn’t a Bible-believing Christian then I would have no problem with Sarah Palin running with McCain as VP. However, God did and I am.
As a Christian I cannot endorse a woman, leaving her husband, her children, and her home, to go work with another woman’s husband. Did I mention that Palin is also a member of Feminists for Life…. Christian Feminists is an oxymoron, imho. As for those who think she’s a modern-day Deborah, please don’t be for it.
I’m afraid you have no “great” choices here for the White House to pick from. Only the lesser of two evils, at least as a Christian, and for the record, I definitely think McCain is a superb choice compared to Barack Hussein Obama.
Blessings,

Freezing My Easter Eggs

All my hens are laying now. I just love all the different colors I get each day. I knew I'd be getting pastel blue, green and pink, and of course brown and white, but I'm loving the deep olive green eggs. Those were a surprise to me. Look at that tiny brown egg in the basket! I put it in the pot when I was boiling eggs for potato salad and egg salad today and snapped a picture of it in a teaspoon right before it got salted and peppered and popped in my mouth! Mmmm-good!

I was beginning to get quite a number of eggs in the refrigerator so I knew it was time to freeze some. Recently I have cracked bunches of eggs into a big bowl and scrambled them, added a little salt and poured them into a freezer bag to keep until I needed them for a scrambled egg breakfast. (or supper!)
Today I wanted to freeze them individually to use in recipes like cakes, cookies, pies, so I emptied out my ice trays and cracked an egg into each section and this time added a pinch of sugar and broke the yolk of each egg. {Always remember to add a bit of salt or sugar before freezing.} Once they're good and frozen solid I'll just pop them out and put them into a freezer bag. This will keep me in good supply of farm fresh eggs even if my hens stop laying for a time. Just eggcellant!

Gustav Update Day 4
The sun has come out today and it's pretty hot. We're still without electricity. I hear there are places here and there getting power back on. Walmart had power yesterday but someone told me there was no fresh produce or frozen or refrigerated food or bread, etc. I got out and picked up a few limbs in the front and some around the chicken coops today. It will take a lot more work plus a power saw to get all that mess cleaned up. This sunshine will dry things up I hope. Thank you for your prayers and kind words and thoughts everyone. It does cheer me up. And it was great hearing Kitty was alive and well and she asked that I let everyone know here at HSB and asked for continued prayers during her very trying circumstances. My daughter was able to be admitted into a hospital ast night thankfully and her doctor has started another IVP and has called in a Urologist. Please keep her in your prayers.
Update from Kitty
I was able to talk to Kitty today. She and her family are doing okay. Her house withstood the storm and I think they lost a shed and maybe some things outside. She is fortunate to have a generator but they are only running it a little while at night. As we are finding out too, the gas to keep one of these things running is very expensive. She said where she lives took a direct hit from the hurricane and they are without power and may be without for 6 weeks. I sure hope that's not the case!!
Her mother is in need of prayer. She is not doing well at all. She is considering calling an ambulance today. It's very hot in her house, yet she's cooking a lot of food, rather than it going to waste. I think others in the area are coming over and eating at their house.
Let's all continue to keep Kitty and her family, her mother especially, in our prayers. They are going through such a terrible time.

I have a What Would You Do Question..
My ex husband called me the other day and we were talking about kids and etc and all of a sudden he says well I have a question to ask of you and your not going to like it. My first response was is it for you or for her???
You see first let me say this. My kids stepmom I don't feel like is very nice to them alot of the time.. She says my 13 year daughter needs to be in special ed and she made her write the alphabet because she wasn't sure she knew it.. What.. I am sorry, but all of MY kids are A or B honor roll kids and if their teachers do not have a problem then what is yours?? She has never had kids of her own and I understand that, but you knew that he had 5 when you married him...
She tends to get upset with Rodney if he has the kids any extra time except his weekends.. Now our parenting plan states that he gets them every other weekend and then every Wednesday for a few hours plus anyother time he might want them that is agreable between the two of us, plue every other week during the summer.. Now Rodney has been getting them his weekends, but he only had them 2 full weeks in the summer because of the situation with her.
Anyway the kids are looking forward to their weekend this weekend and she tells Rodney that he needs to change weekends because she only has 2 days off this week and etc and that if he doesn't change then he and the kids have to stay somewehere else...
Now I normally am very easy going and would trade him in a heartbeat, but I am sick and tired of her trying to keep him from having his time with the kids.. My kids welcome the time with their dad when she is not around and want to go ahead and go with him this weekend..
So long story short.. I told him that the kids wanted to come with him this weekend and that I was not going to trade.. If it was something that he needed becasue of work or something then we would work it out, but hello she knew he had kids and that he needs to spend time with them.. My older kids are upset because they know that their relationship with dad is going down hill because of her and they want to go to their dad's this weekend..
So should I switch or let them go with their dad?? I know that she or my ex MIL will read this and make comments, but really this is about the kids and their relationship with their dad..
God Bless you for reading this far....
God Bless,
Mars
Rain Rain Quizes and other fun stuff...
It has been raining most of the week now and so once again everything in North Missouri is wet and soggy again.. :) I am not complaining I am just stating a fact.. LOL Jordin's ballgame was called Tuesday due to the rain and it looks as if tonighs game will also be called off due to the rain... That is too bad, but we will make them up....
Well this morning in microbiology we had a quiz.. It was a practice test and it went ok.. I am telling you this class is tough.. We were talking before the class and the teacher is like a genius and we are all normal so when he talks sometimes we are like hello please speak in english.. LOL
I spoke with my ex husband last night and he said his dad will not get out of the hospital now till Saturday. The kids are worried about him and can't wait for him to get home so they can see him...
Jeremiah had a dream last night about his uncle that died last week. He got up this morning talking about it saying how he had a dream about uncle Robery and that he had gotten shot, but it was just his arm that got it and so he was in a cast, but he got to come back home and so did Lizzy.. We talked about it and he understands and is ok with things, but please keep the little guy in your prayers.. I know it has to be hard to know that your uncle is gone and not coming back..
Well I better get going for now.. I have some labs to do on the computer and some videos to watch as well..
Take care have a wonderful day..
God Bless,
Mars
A Thursday Morning
It's still early here and all is quiet. So far this morning I have gathered a couple of eggs (production is slow these days) enjoyed toast with blueberry lime jam, coffee with cream, and pulled my flip flop from the jaws of the puppy...twice.
Yesterday's labors produced twenty more quarts for storage. Ten quarts of tomato juice, ten quarts of pearsauce. Middle Son is under the weather and has been for a couple of days now. Seems it's just a cold, but that's enough to make anyone feel poorly. It reminded me that I need to start going through our medicine and remedy chest to make sure that we are prepared for winter. Winter. It's so hard to think of it when it's been ninety all week!
Tomorrow morning I go for tests. Two hours of MRI's. I am not looking forward to it, but trying to remember who will be right there with me in the room. Every test and trial I have had has made Jesus so real to me, as though he was right there holding my hand...
"For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee." Isaiah 41:13
Well, I have several things to get accomplished today. There are lessons to teach, laundry to hang and a meal plan to make for the next two weeks. Once that is all done, there are pears, of course. And I just bet that if I walk back to the garden, there will be some tomatoes as well...
