Baby chipmunks

Yesterday I had enough energy to move aside our pile of salvaged building materials. Once The Shack comes down, it’ll be our parking space for The Cabin so I was clearing out piles. I came across a baby chipmunk, not even old enough to have its eyes open. My gloves were dusty and covered in dirt so I am optimistic that covered my human scent and we carefully reconstructed the two windows the nest had been in and put the nest and baby back. I’d seen the momma chipmunk scurry off when I was cleaning up so I hoped she’d come back, especially when we found another baby that was squeaking for her. Upon today’s check, no momma and there’s no movement in the nest. I feel so bad that I may have killed two baby chipmunks!! Also found a good-sized skink but it was so warm that it was impossible to catch it. Alex is in the process of framing walls on our bathroom. The cabin is enclosed aside from a few cracks here and there. We are in need of windows now because it’s hot in Hayes’ loft. Our neighbor down the road, Mike, gave us a good door perfectly suited for an outhouse and lent Alex his nail gun. The bathroom will have running hot and cold water for the sink and bath and the toilet is a sawdust composting one. Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 25 of 29 } { Next Page } |
