Guinea carnage!

Friday we were so excited to have our own money that Alex took us out to dinner. Earlier in the day, I had been so proud of our Catahoula mix Ruffian for herding the guineas into one group. When we came back from dinner that night, though, we discovered Ruffian had killed two more guineas. Three more are MIA so now we’re down to five guineas, which are easier to count and keep track of.

Also on the way home Friday along the Natchez Trace, we picked up a young hunting beagle. He’s done nothing but sleep since coming to our house. Alex dipped all the dogs since that beagle was covered, and I mean covered, in seed ticks. We’ve named him Trace and he follows Hayes all around.

Saturday we got all the tin we needed to roof the cabin and found ourselves like real horse people by getting a trailer full of hay on credit. I just remember all the people I worked for complaining about paying their hay bills. Now we’re one of them! A storm was coming in fast and there’s nothing like restacking 100 bales of hay and getting it tarped and tied down while lightning and thunder crash all around you.
