Happenings aroung the Tolmie Household

Can't believe it has been this long since I updated

Well a lot has happened since I updated.  Most important one to deal with is my dh started to have anxiety attacks.  He gets some real doozies and is very combative during them.  I just talk in a soft tone and get him doing a few deep breathing exercises and that seems to help.  Meanwhile it is causing chaos to my digestive system.  I have Irratible Bowel and stress just agravates it.  So I get stress and then I pay by the pain and everything I get.  Oh well, I more thing to deal  with.

I have enclosed a e-mail of a sort I get sent everyday by the Generous Wife Site.  It sends you a little tidbit each day on how to improve our lifes as well as our husbands.  I got sent a really good on yesterday about our married sex life but thought it was really pg for any children that read the blogs.  Clare

Some friends and I were discussing the impact of what we look at and listen to. How much does a movie effect our values?  Will repeated exposure to a certain kind of literature eventually impact our character?
That said, let's pray for our husband over what they expose themselves to.  One movie here, one conversation there, may not be life changing, but then again it might be.  Let them be motivated for good rather than ill.

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.  Watch your words, for they become actions.  Watch your actions, for they become habits.  Watch your habits, for they become character.  Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny. Author Unknown

Wedding

We had a wonderful time at my cousin's wedding yesterday.  It was a beautiful ceremony set in an intimate setting.  The reception was a blast.  It was great to see family that we only see for these occassions.  I had a few slow dances with my dh.  My it feels good to be in his arms.  We didn't get home until 1:30 a.m.   The girls slept until 12:30 and I have to admit I didn't get up until 12:00 .

We obviously didn't make it to church this morning.  I will definitely have to do some bible study later.

We are supposed to have chicken for supper  but I forgot to take it out so it will have to be something else.

I had to go back to the hospital last night because the pain in my bowel was excruciating.  They gave some pain meds but nothing helped.  They ended up keeping my all night and then I saw my gastroenterologist this morning.  He ordered a cat scan.  He said the colonscopy went well and he saw no polyps or disease.  So it is irritable bowel.  He put me on a medicine called detenil.  You take it three times a day and it helps control the pain and other symptoms.  The cat scan came back okay except he mentioned I had fibroids and to follow up with the family doctor.  I am glad to be home.

Today

We are having Tacos for supper tonight.  So I boiled the hamburger and will add the sauce later.  I have cut up the tomatoes and shredded the cheese ready to go.

My dh has an appointment with his counsellor this afternoon.  While he is in there I am going to pick our oldest dd up from high school.  I have to take her to Wal-mart and have her glasses adjusted.  I also have to exchange a blind I had bought for the kitchen window.  The summer sun really beats in through there and if you are trying to eat at least one person gets blinded.

Then back home to make supper.  Our youngest dd will be home by then.  Then relax until America's Next Top Model is on.

Colonscopy

The colonscopy went very well.  They put an IV in my hand and gave me some sedatives.  The next thing I know I was in the recovery room.  I am having cramps with my bowels and today it was really bad for quite a while.  I guess I will know within the next two weeks if they found anything or not.  I am not able to take the girls to Sea Cadets tonight.  Oh well, there is always next week.

Homeschooling

{ 11:14 , Monday, May 1, 2006 } { 2 comments } { Link }
We are going to start the adventure of homeschooling with our youngest daughter.  She will be going into Grade 8.  She has been in the public school system since kindergarten.  The last 3 years she has been having problems with being bullied.  The first two were in another school.  We moved to a different city with a new school and it all started up again.  I see her self esteem is in the toilet.  She has a slight learning disability but not enough to qualify for  the extra help.  They keep passing her through the grades and she still doesn't know her basics.  So that is what we will be working on math, spelling and reading.  I am not worried about standard cirriculum right now just catching her up to her age level.

Colonscopy

I have to go for a colonscopy today at 1:00 pm.  I am really not looking forward to it.  I have never had one before and I am quite nervous about it.  If you feel led to pray I would appreciate it.  I will update tomorrow how it went.

We are have Mac and Cheese for supper because the girls can cook that by themselves.  I probably won't be up to cooking anything because I am having sedation with the procedure.

Saturday Happenings

Hello everyone!

Today is the first day of my blog site.  We have been busy since early this morning.  I had a bunch of rearranging to do around the apartment.

A little about our family.  I am married to dh, Graeme.  We have two girls Jeannette who is 14 and Jessica who is 12.  Both girls are involved in Sea Cadets.  It is shoot-off of the Navy.  Children 12 - 19 attend and learn how to sail, tie knots and learn about life on the sea.

I have planted a flower garden already.  I have put in pansies this year so I don't have to worry about the bit of colder weather we will probably still have.

I have a small patch to plant vegetables in.  I will plant green beans, green peppers and tomatoes.
